I'm Grateful for the Scriptures

Image
I have a goal to read the Book of Mormon in 30 days- starting today. It ends on my 38th birthday and although I didn't plan it that way, it must be a sign that this is a good thing! Now that I've written it down, it's gonna happen. I'm accountable now. I love the scriptures. I love to read them and I am grateful to all of the North American Prophets- Nephi, Mosiah, Jarom, Alma, Mosiah, Ether, Alma, Mormon, Moroni and many others- who followed God's commandments and wrote down their stories and the stories of their people. I grateful to Joseph Smith who was prepared and took the golden plates that the Book of Mormon was written on and translated them into a language we can all understand. It is now 82 full and 25 partial-languages. Joseph Smith had a 3rd grade education and I'm grateful for his faith, his tenacity, and his influence. What a great man! I know that as we read the scriptures, the Soirit can testify of their truthfulness and our faith will increase. ...

Be Careful What You Wish For...

Because you will probably get it! On my bucket list on this blog, I wrote that I wanted to no longer afraid of Dentists. You can cross that one off my list, baby! I am no longer afraid of DENTISTS! Yes, I may still get nervous and a little squeamish at the smell of chemicals that hit you when you first walk in, but I do NOT dread, abhor or hate Dentists. The sad thing is that I had to go see the Dentists quite a few times in order for this to happen. About six months ago, even though going to the Dentist on a frequent basis, I was told that I had 6 cavities. Ok. That's not too bad. I could do that.  I got them all taken care of and the Dentist mentioned that if one started to hurt again, I would probably need a root canal (my fav!). I left, pushing that thought out of my mind. Three months later, I had a huge toothache and had completely forgotten about the Dentist's warning. I went right in and he said, yep, it's either one or two root canals (and it could be muc...

My Hopes and Dreams 2013

Image
My sister had a great idea for New Years Resolutions for 2013. Normally I make a few resolutions for the year in 5 categories- Spiritual, Emotional, Physical, Social, and Mental. This year I'ld like to also combine those into 13 things I would like to do in 2013. 1. Have a Foster baby/toddler in our home. We went to the Foster/Adoption orientation last December so it's been a year since we started this whole process. We're excited to start working on it again and help a child in need (end of March/April). 2. Attend as many Book Club Meetings as I can/read the books. Sometimes in summer, I get too busy to read and miss out on our meetings. I hope to keep going all year long! 3. Attend Adult Institute class for our Church weekly/when I have an open day. Our Church does a weekly class for adults and it's team taught by one of my friends so I would like to make it every chance I get. 4. Run a 5k (already signed up for the Mayor's Ostrich 5k Mar. 2 in Chan...

New Years Resolutions '11

Image
via Pioneer Woman I love the scripture that says Jesus grew in wisdom and strength, in favor with God and man. Every year or even every season- Fall, Winter, Summer- I like to set goals in each of these categories. I've mentioned my Sunday Planning on here before and my goals go right along with that. Every Sunday, I go over my list of goals and see how I'm doing. Here are a few of my goals for 2011: Intellectual - Read 1 book a month and attend Book Club as often as possible. Physical- Run a 10k (and train as well). Spiritual- Attend the temple once a month. Social- Go on a date with Josh once a week and go to MOMS club at least once a month. And learning everything I can about JOY . This is my blog. My name is Megan A.

I'm addicted

Print this map out in color and hand it to your 6 year old boy. It will keep him busy for the next hour! If he is anything like Ethan, that is. ...to posting on my blog. I admit, I made it a goal, so I could feel like I was accomplishing something when I did it. Now I know. I'm just addicted and I can't stop blogging now. The quick fix of writing something and then seeing it there- in print- online, for the whole world to see. It gives me a thrill of pleasure each time I hit the publish post! It causes me to neglect things. Not huge things, like showering, doing my hair (Ok- maybe my hair. A little bit) or teaching/olaying/laughing with my children, but small things like looking for that book my Mom asked to borrow or going to Target to buy that Memory Foam pad I am convinced will solve all my sleep woes. So, now I must rescind my goal to blog daily. Can one rescind a goal? What do you do when you realize the goal that you made: ie. blog daily- one can't when one has no int...

My Challenge Update

For those of you just tuning in to my blog, I set up a challenge 10 days ago. This said challenge included writing in my blog every single day, including the weekends, for a whole year, reading 2 pages in the Old Testament every day and exercising 3 times a week. It's been a week since I made those goals and let me tell you two things: 1. I've made good progress- I've done more than I usually do and that's what goals are for. 2. The only goal I truly completed was to blog everyday. What does that say about me? That I can find more time to blog than to read the Bible? I still read my scriptures every day, but that extra addition is just not happening. I need to set a time to do it and just get it done. There's a problem with that though. I want to read in the morning, but I wake up around 3 am and just can't see myself studying the scriptures that early. Going online, yes. Studying the Bible, not so much. So by the time nighttime rolls around and it's a more ...

My list

On one very cool awesome blog ( eliseblaha.typepad.com ) the author mentions how she made a list of 25 things she wanted to this year after she turned 25 years old. I thought that was a great idea, but seeing as the year is almost half over for me, with my birthday being December 19th and all, I decided to make a list of 16 (half of 32- yes, I'm old!) things I want to do this year. I may include things I have already planned, but that's okay! If I get them all done I get a waffle cone from Brusters! The List! 1. Run a 5k race. 2. Swim 16 laps in the pool. 3. Go camping. 4. Make lime-ades. 5. Sing with Elizabeth at Church. 6. Successfully stop all medication. 7. Take part in the PTA. 8. Teach piano lessons. 9. Paint something artistic. 10. Do a Martha Stewart Craft. 11. Recognize each birthday that day. 12. Finish reading the Book of Mormon and buy a new one. 13. Go to California. 14. Pay off credit cards and maintain that. 15. Go skiing. 16. Babysit. This is my blog. My name is...

Happy Disneyland

Image
Funny statement about the economy's current status or lack thereof. Disneyland, who wants to come with me some day next year? My future wheels- Mazda Miata, original body, red with a tan soft cover top. Oh, baby! So, I'm into positive affirmations lately. They are normally things like "I am lovable." " I am capable."and "Dog-gone it people like me." Lately they have changed to "I am in California." "I am at Disneyland." "I will have a million dollars when I turn 40." " I will have a Mazda Miata by the time I'm 50." Are these unreasonable demands to ask from the universe/world? I don't think so! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.
