My Dad's Miraculous Miracle

Image
I don't know if I have told you about my Dad's Miraculous Miracle yet. Just a little background on the story- a little over 10 years ago my Dad John was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia also known as CLL (I wrote about it here ). He was 58 years old. It is common for males to get this later in life- if they do get it at all. At first I didn't know it was cancer. Yes, it had the name Leukemia in it, but since it also had the word Chronic, I felt that it wasn't dangerous and that we would overcome it within a short time. I distinctly remember the time someone mentioned the word "Cancer". It was probably about 6 months into his diagnosis and I was surprised that no one had said it before. It was like we were dancing around the subject.        Earlier this year, my Dad had run out of options and was still fighting CLL. He had tried all of the trial drugs and the only option left was a CarT cell transplant. This is whe...

My Dad's Leukemia

Image
**Disclaimer. All of the below contains information as I know it. It may not all be accurate as I am a second source and often things get lost in the translation, as sometimes happens in my family. I will try to correct any errors as need be. About 6 years ago, in 2006, my Dad was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia . At first I didn't know it was Cancer (yes, I do have my blonde moments and did not realize that leukemia was cancer- I thought it was just a very serious illness). When someone finally came out and said the word "cancer", I was upset that 1) I didn't realize leukemia was cancer 2) No one had used the word cancer and that they had seemed to avoid that word. As a side note, CLL is a cancer of your white blood cells that come from your bone marrow. It is often discovered in older people, especially men. It is not treated in it's first stages but it is treated later on. He went into treatment and did pretty well, considering. He has wonder...

Happy Birthday, Dad and Amy!

Image
My Dad and Asher 2008 Amy with Uncle Doug and Aunt Sheelah! 2007 Sunday was my Dad's birthday and today is my sister Amy's birthday! I am a little remiss that I am late on this post for my Dad. Sorry! Amy turns 28 today! Wow! Happy Birthday to my Dad! He recently found out that, after quite awhile, he is Lukemia free! We are so happy for you, Dad! What a blessing! My Dad has also retired this year! He has worked long and hard for about twenty five years in the California School System as an Elementary and Jr. High School Counselor. Way to go, Dad! Now you can relax, work on the yard, take care of Shasta, spend more time with Mom and make home videos for me! Happy Birthday to Amy Jo! Amy is six years younger than me but we have always gotten along wonderfully. We were roomies at BYU right after I got off my mission. We shared a bedroom when Molly went off to BYU right after we graduated from High School. When I would come back from college I would entertain her with stories of ...

To my Dad

Image
My dad! It's Father's Day! I am with my Father-in-law today and I get to see my Dad in a few days. How awesome is that? I love both of my Fathers very much, but today I wanted to focus on my biological Father. I was just reading (just as in a few weeks ago) reading another blog where the girl dedicated a post about her Father. You see her Father has cancer and was told that he would die in six months if he didn't do anything about it. My Father had cancer. CLL, or Chronic Lymphonic Leukemia from June 2006- sometime in 2008. He is in remission. He didn't die. And I am oh so glad. Because I wouldn't have been able to handle it. I was already suffering from major Depression (actually Bi-Polar but I didn't know it at the time) when he started getting worse and worse. His white blood cell count was bad. He was doing radiation. He had low energy. Things were not going well! We had a fast as a family for him. I fasted. My sisters fasted. My brothers fasted. My Mom fas...

MVA

Image
This morning I went to the MVA this morning to register our van and get a new Maryland license. Aunt Ellen- Auntie Em- as her family calls her- graciously watched the kids for me. I was in and out in about two hours and got the van's plates and my new license! Everyone was happy- I think they had a little two much chocolate last night- besides a few disgruntled applicants. Happy Halloween, by the way! Overall, my visit to the MVA- not DMV went very successfully and ended with a "Welcome to Maryland" by a sweet MVA worker. I had never had someone say that to me and felt very welcomed! The kids went to trunk or treat last night and a good time was had by all. We will be going out again tonight and I hope to post pictures tommorow. In other news, I may be blogging only on Mon, Wed and Fridays (poor crazy picture day Thursday get left out in the cold!) I have been busy with Halloween and my therapy. New issues that I am dealing with seem again too much for a blog. Let me just...
