Quotes I love

Image
taken while we were in D.C There were quite a few quotes from General Conference that I loved. Here are a few: "Envy is a mistake that just keeps giving." Jeffrey R. Holland "Righteous longing and yearning will be fulfilled." Boyd K. Packer "Surely the thing that God enjoys most about being God is being merciful." Jeffrey R. Holland "Don't hyperventilate at something that happened at 9 in the morning when the lord is trying to reward you at 6 pm." Jeffrey R. Holland "We naturally seek to serve one another." Robert D. Hales "To pray and ask is how revelation is received." Richard G. Scott "You can't be right by doing wrong. You can't be wrong doing right." Ulisses Soares "The more we allow the love of God to govern our emotions (thoughts), the easier it is to love others." Henry B. Eyring "Our degree of Gratitude is a measure of our love for Him." Elder Russell M. Nelson "If you ...

This morning I woke up very early with a terrifying dream. I had chastised my son. Really loudly. In public. (Not that this may or may not have happened before). It shook me to the core. My soul knows who these little people really are and how special they are to our Heavenly Father. I couldn't sleep so I went online and began watching (while flipping to other sites as well) Elder Uchdorf's Saturday Morning Conference address You Matter to Him . His message was meant just for me. And I mean that. Coming from Maryland, where we owned a beautiful home, had good, strong family who loved, served and counseled us often, with an income coming in and our lives established- to moving to Arizona with an Uncle and cousin in Mesa and our other closest family in California. Renting, struggling to make friends in a huge ward, working hard to set up house and home and establish a life for ourselves. I had begun to think " Have I been forgotten ?" In fact, I had plead...

Quotes from General Conference

"Never let a mistake get in the way of a relationship." President Monson "The Book of Mormon is the best guide of how we are doing and how we can improve. " President Eyring "You sure were able to keep your testimony. The testimony kept me." Barbara Thompson "Are these all yours or is it a picnic?" "They're all mine and it's no picnic." Neil L. Andersen------I love this one! "In family relationships LOVE is really spelled TIME." Ian S. Arden "Let us be as quick to kneel as we are to text." Ian S. Arden "We must look up and step up." Carl B. Cook "Repentance means striving to change." D. Todd Christoffersen And my personal favorite- " Wait on the Lord. " Robert D. Hales Conference was wonderfully refreshing! I loved it! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

A Conference Talk given by Elder Patrick Kearon, of the Seventy, to the Priesthood of our Church, has once again, spoken to my heart. In his talk he tells a story, to which I have a very personal connection. He says: "As a seven-year-old boy living in the Arabian Peninsula, I was consistently told by my parents to always wear my shoes, and I understood why. I knew that shoes would protect my feet against the many threats to be found in the desert, such as snakes, scorpions, and thorns. One morning after a night’s camping in the desert, I wanted to go exploring, but I did not want to bother with putting on my shoes. I rationalized that I was only going for a little wander and I would stay close by the camp. So instead of shoes, I wore flip-flops. I told myself that flip-flops were shoes—of a sort. And anyway, what could possibly happen? As I walked along the cool sand—in my flip-flops—I felt something like a thorn going into the arch of my foot. I looked down and saw not...

General Conference

In one short day it is General Conference time. For those of you who don't know, I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, otherwise known as the Mormon Church. I was born into the Church. My Mom became a Convert in her 20's and my Dad comes from a long line of faithful members, including pioneers and a member of the 70's. I have almost always had a very strong testimony of the truthfulness of the Church and it's Gospel. I served an eighteen month mission at the age of 21 in Bilbao, Spain and I loved sharing the Book of Mormon with others in a different country and in a different language. One of the hardest things I have ever had to go through is the Depression I went through from March 2008 to March 2009 when I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar. It rocked my testimony. I felt guilty daily and constantly wondered at my status in the eyes of my Heavenly Father. I am here to tell you that although I know that my trials are not over, or far from it, it has be...

General Conference

This past weekend was General Conference. Normally, we watch all four sessions on tv. This past weekend though, was the peak time to go see the 3,000 cherry trees in blossom down by the mall in D.C. so we decided to go check it out in the morning and then be back in time for Conference at 12 pm or watch it at the Visitors Center. We went down with our friends the Carrolls. They have three kids and always take the metro. We have four, and never take the metro. It was the most crowded I've ever seen! The trains were so packed we had to wait for more empty ones to come. It was an adventure, but I will never ever take the metro to see the blossoms again! We got down there, took some pictures- which I'll post later- and had a picnic lunch and flew a little kite. We got back at 1 or 2 so we missed most of the morning session. Josh did look on his blackberry to find out the new apostle- Neil A. Anderson- the uncle of one of my BYU friends. I loved the second session and then the morni...
