On Writing

Image
I've wanted to be a writer for about ten years now. After I had three kids under three years old and all that that entailed, I felt like I should write everything down, let people know what that was like. It seemed a good way to get everything out of my head and on to the paper. I would write short stories- the time when the twins emptied the eggs out of the carton in a trail across the floor while I showered, the time it took 2 hours to put them down for a twenty minute nap, the time Ethan broke his leg with a toddler fracture and I had to carry him while carrying the baby in a baby backpack. Ah, those were the days !  Yep, these were stories that needed to heard and felt. Yet, instead of writing a book, I wrote it down in this blog. I vented my frustration when the kids were tiny, I was silent in midst of my depression, I was chatty while I was hyper, subdued when we lost our two babies and exultant when we had Declan. This blog has seen it all and while I haven...

Happy 8th Birthday, Asher!!

Asher is 8 years old today!!! Happy Birthday, Buddy! He is getting baptized this Saturday and he is SO excited! He was asked to give a talk last Sunday and while I was helping him write it, I added "I am excited!" He corrected me and said "No, I am SO excited" and quickly grabbed the pen and added the emphasis. Asher loves art, basketball, laughing, hanging out with friends, going to school. He just started reading the Harry Potter series this summer, inspired by one of his friends and he's already on the third book (although I think he is skimming some pages in order to keep up with Ethan who is also reading it). His best friends are Aiden and Zack. He loves baby Declan and likes to make him smile. For his birthday, he asked for minecraft on the computer (we have it on the phone) and a remote control anything. We love you, Asher! Happy Special 8th Birthday! *I know that I have mentioned before that I would change this blog to more of a fam...

Happy 1,000th!

My Parents were married in the Mesa, AZ Temple 35 years ago and Josh and I went for the first time last Friday. We went while the kids were in school and I was just thrilled to go! What a special day! I think May was a lot better time to get married than August! Phew! I've been a little hesitant to write this blog post today. Somehow I think that if I write it, I will break my streak and never post again. Hopefully that won't happen. Even if we never replace our computer table that we left in Maryland! The winner of my 1,000 post give away is Michelle !! Congratulations! Michelle, e-mail me your address at joshmeganabbott at hotmail dot com and I'll get it out to you! Thank you to all who read my blog. The comments that people have left me when times have been hard have often made me smile with joy and have literally made my day. It's amazing what one little small thing can do for a person. Happy blogging and Happy September/Labor Day coming up!!! Where di...

The blue screen of death

Yesterday I got the blue screen of death. You know the one that says you have to restart your computer because of problems. Then, it happened again this morning. This was not unexpected. Well, mostly. You see, a few months ago, I opened up a blank e-mail and caught a crazy virus. Spyware. Something. I don't know the difference between spyware and a virus, as we have McAffee anti-virus and it couldn't catch it. We would type something into google and the search results would pop up, but when you clicked on a link, it would send you to a different search engine. We ended up just copying and paste the page into the browser. Then the computer started getting slow and you could just tell it was working on something. I tried downloading some anti-spyware. Nothing. Josh wisely suggested we get a back up drive, as we hadn't backed up anything for the past five years. Not very smart, right? Well, we bought an external hard drive two weeks ago and backed up everything. We were about ...

And the winner is...

My hope and prayer

I have five minutes to write a post before I get the kids up out of bed. With this time frame I just wanted to share a few thoughts that have been bouncing around in my head lately: - I love the Church. I love that I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love that I can have a convert-like testimony so even though I've known the Gospel all my life, I can feel like I have just found it. -I love being a Mom. I love having a girl who is precious and sweet and intelligent and fun. I love having twins, even though they drive me up the wall sometimes. And I love Asher. Yesterday his preschool had a Spring Concert and he shouted out to me "Hi, Mommy!" for the whole world to hear. He melted my heart. -I love being a wife to Josh. He works so hard to support our family and really tries his very best in all that he does. -I love being a Hulihan and a Abbott and all that comes with that. -I love blogging and I love the fact that I can share my thoughts an...
