Strep Throat!!!

Image
I was prepared for Declan to come home sick the first week or two of Kindergarten. Being around all those new little germs you are not used to often makes you sick and miserable!  Fast forward a month and I thought I was out of the woods! We had been rubbing Thieves Essential Oil on the bottom of his feet but I hadn't been so faithful with it the past few weeks. We also have Thieves in our bathroom hand soap and in our cleaning spray so I thought we would be gone! Boy, was I wrong! 9 days ago today, Declan complained of a sore throat. I thought it was mild and would go away as usual. It didn't. Then he had a headache and on Friday he couldn't wake up and when he did, he told me "Mom, there is a sign on the mirror in the bathroom that says if you are sick, stay home!" **My 5 year old can read, did I mention that? It's been lovely and I think it was the tv captioning because besides reading bedtime books and going over sight words we didn't d...

Sick kiddies

taken August 2009 Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you just have to roll with it. Yesterday all 4 kids got sick with a fever of 100-102. They were cranky, then tired, then cold, then hot, then hungry, then thirsty, then throwing a few tantrums, then asleep. It started at 1 pm yesterday, when we picked up the kids from summer school (oh yeah- they go to summer school from 9-1 pm with free breakfast and lunch in July. It's an option available because our school is a title one school and we like it) and he asked for a blanket. It was 95 degrees outside, with high humidity. I gave it to him and he was happy. Elizabeth came home and said she was cold all day. I checked her head- burning hot! 100 degrees. I gave her tylenol and sent her to bed. I checked Asher. Same. Tylenol and blanket. Ethan? Nothing. Jonah- hot too, but refused thermometer and medicine. It's sad because Jonah needed the medicine but he was so sick he couldn't think straight. He spit out most of the...

The sickness saga continues

Last night Josh slept in "Grandma's Room" (our extra room which Grandma was the very first guest to stay in). We moved our King bed into there because it was way too big and cold for me to sleep comfortably in. I've been waking up every night for the past three nights with a cold (even after taking Unisom) and proceed to wake up Josh either for a blessing (twice) or complain. Josh quoted Brigham Young in saying that even though you get a blessing, if you don't take medicine for what you have, you are not being very smart. That being said I bought some Nyquil last night but couldn't find it. This morning I found it, behind the curtains in the kitchen. Aaah! You see, I was raised by a Mother and Father who believe strongly in natural remedies and not the use of medicine. My Grandfather (my Dad's Dad) still feels that certain medicines are evil and should be avoided at all costs. So it's been a struggle all my life to use even basic things like Tylenol or...

Feeling betta!

Sorry for those who received my freaking out e-mail this morning as a call for help. I'm glad I sent it, because I received lots of help (Someone taking Elizabeth to school and back and a plan to take her tommorow also, a nap while Ellen watched the boys, dinner brought over and soup being brought later tonight). For those of you who don't know: I woke up around 4 am not being able to speak a word and I freaked out. Josh, I whispered, I'm sick! You have to stay home! Then, the realization hit: he's a lawyer. At a big law firm. He gets paid big bucks to do big jobs. He's not going to be able to stay home today. This is the first time I've ever been sick to the point of not functioning as well since he's had this job (I've not been pregnant for two and a half years and am generally healthy!). I kind of freaked out and sent a mass e-mail calling for help. In the end, it turns out I don't have strep. Yay! When 4 pm hit and the doctor hadn't called, ...

My day: in five words

Sick. Snow day. Strep Throat. Sick kids. Lots of laundry. New cell phone. New number: (301)767-6669. (Okay, that was more than five words, but Josh is home with Strep Throat and he gave it to me probably and he is working from home on the computer so my life is now reduced to folding laundry and watching the Bee Movie- which is hilarious by the way- instead of hanging out alone online. Hmm. Maybe this is a good thing) Keep warm and pray that it will only be a 2 hr delay and not another snow day! But, if it is- that's okay too! Love, Megan ps. call me or text me anytime: I'm on Verizon and we now have a family plan! Yay! Next step: a blue tooth- so I can talk and fold clean clothes at the same time!

Pink Eye

So, Asher and Ethan both have pink eye. They stayed home from Church yesterday, while I played a piano piece in Sacrament mtg. Right after I got home at 3 pm, I took just Asher to Medical Access while Ethan stayed home. I wanted to take him, but he didn't want to go and his eye wasn't that bad and I thought I could charm my way into getting the doctor to give me a prescription for him also. Turns out he wouldn't, which is probably good. So, this morning Jonah is the sole school attendee. Elizabeth has no school today and Ethan is sick. Right now Jonah is bawling "I don't want to go school!" Now starts the jumping and a louder voice. Soon it will turn into a tantrum. I better go. This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott. p.s. If you pray for humility, you may just be diagnosed with warts on your feet by the dr, so think before you pray!

Sick kids

Sick kids. That's all I have to say. I'm thankful for an Aunt nearby- Ellen- who watched my kids while I was able to buy some stamps and take a two hour nap. I still had a hard time sleeping last night, although all the kids slept through the night- thankfully. I've been having a hard sleeping at night, so I got a blessing from Josh and things should improve as I work on it. Today we are going to the Doctor for Elizabeth to check if she has asthma- she has had a cough for a month and another Dr. recommended it. We'll see how it goes. This is my blog. Good Morning

Good Morning. It's 4:30 am and I have been woken up several times tonight by a feverish Asher. All four of my kids have been sick since Friday. Friday evening Ethan started complaining of pain in his big toe and coughing. We checked his toe, and sure enough it was red and swollen. Plus, he had a fever. We didn't know if it was from his cold or an infection. We decided to wait until Saturday morning to take him to the Insta-care, as it was Dec. 26th and I wasn't sure if they were open. Saturday morning I found myself sitting in a long wait at the Insta-care with a coughing Elizabeth and a sick Ethan. Jonah and Asher were not sick as yet and were at the library with Dad. The doctor gave us advice for Ethan, who had a fever and low blood pressure (any worries that I need to have?) and an ingrown toe-nail. Elizabeth could have asthma he said, as her cough has persisted for a month. What do you think, Hilary? Sunday morning I stayed home with sick Ethan and Asher and Jonah, whil...
