On a greyer note...

In a way, Joseph adopted Jesus. I injured my back on Saturday lifting some heavy boxes, so I have been immobilized today. This is good and bad. Good because it forces me to take a break and rest some- to think and to get organized. Bad because I am in pain and I can't get done any of the things that I wanted to get done today. While Josh was off at the bank setting up our new bank accounts, I tried to be a little more productive and went online. I blogged about our trip (see future posts), I updated my goodreads (nice to see you again, my friend!), I sent messages on facebook and guess what else I did? I looked seriously into adoption. It was scary, but I did it. I called up our nearest LDS family services and asked them point blank if a Mother of 4 with Bipolar Disorder such as myself was eligible for adoption through their agency. The very friendly lady on the other end informed me that once someone has 3 kids they can no longer use LDS family services. I didn't kn...

Adoption Thoughts

Image
I have stopped posting regularly on the adoption blog but I still feel very strongly about it all. I really feel that some children come to us through many ways- be it fertility treatments, adoption, etc. I always felt strongly about families and felt that I would get married and go on to have my children one after another until we were done. That hasn't happened. And then there are women or families who have babies coming to them when they are not ready to Parent AT ALL. They may be married, they may be single and they may have children already and are simply not ready to Parent another one. When these two groups of people- those who are just dying to Parent and also have the space in their home and their hearts- and those whose need help- get together, a beautiful thing called ADOPTION happens. Adoption is the best option (for some of us). This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Adoption Poem

Image
picture via queandbrittany.blogspot.com I was sitting down and re-reading some parts of the April 2011 Ensign because someone had mentioned that there was an article on adoption in there and I came across this poem entitled Just the Same. I was touched as read the sweet author's words. Here it is: Just the Same By Diana Lynn Lacey Sometimes— God sends rain Straight from the sky To nourish the young flower and it grows. Sometimes— God sends rain from the sky To the mountaintops, Then over hills and through valleys Until it reaches the flower ...

General Conference Sunday

Image
I've been reading the May Ensign with the General Conference Talks in it a lot lately. This morning I read Elder D. Todd Christofferson's talk entitled "As Many as I Love, I Rebuke and Chasten". I love Elder Christofferson. His son was in my mission in Spain and he was just like a mini Apostle. He spoke low and deep and was so humble. In his talk, Elder Christofferson tells a story about a currant bush. The bush had grown up to be six feet tall and had no berries on it. The gardener (President Hugh B. Brown) saw this and pruned it back drastically, leaving only stumps. President Brown noted a small, tear like drop on each of the stumps, as if the bush was saying to him " 'How can you do this to me? I was making such wonderful growth...And now you have cut me down. Every plant in the garden will look down on me...How could you do this to me? I thought you were the gardener here.' " Someone mentioned this story on their blog post as well and I complete...

via internets a newborn. His/her head all solid and firm in my hand, covered with a sort of peachy fuzz that is like smooth velvet to the touch. I dreamt last night of this little wee one. A few details made me think that I had adopted this little treasure from heaven. One- I did not give birth to him. He was not my birthson. He was someone else's, but I held him like he was my own. Two- This baby boy was bald, with no hair at all- just peach fuzz. All of my kids have had hair at birth- long, silky hair. Elizabeth astounded us all with her dark tresses. Asher's blonde beauty was talked about by all the nurses and even Ethan and Jonah who were born preemies had long, fine strands of silk. I just checked pics to make sure. When we first began thinking about adoption two months ago, I searched online for as much information as I could. During my search I found the blog lds adoption connection . I began reading it often, rejoicing in it's encouraging words and finding joy in ...

Funny Kids Sayings

Image
Can you guess who this is? Ethan or Jonah? (And no cheating by looking at past pictures!) This morning I was making lunches and Asher, my 4 yr old, complained: "Mom! He hit me!" Ethan, the 6 yr old was quick to explain "But it didn't hurt!" Ethan, just so you know- you will still get in trouble for hitting, even if it didn't hurt! Then I was doing laundry while the twin boys were doing a little imaginary play. Jonah: "Pretend I'm the boy and you're the girl." Ethan: "No. I'm the boy." Jonah: "No. You're the girl. The girl is lucky." Ethan: "Ok." Jonah: "I'm the boy and you're the girl and there is a big man with a gun behind us and we're about to kiss..." Ethan: "No, I'm the boy!" It's so funny that neither of them obviously wanted to be the girl. We even have a girl in the family- but she wasn't in the room- she wasn't a part of it all. These kids...

This weekend

Ethan, Elizabeth, Asher, Jonah, A from t-ball This weekend sure was a busy one- and cold too!- Friday Night was Movie Night at our School- Mega Mind- and the last one our PTA will be doing! Yay! I have had fun being on the PTA board this year, but will not be returning next year. There may not even be a PTA at our school next year as of now, but I wouldn't be able to add it to my plate next year! Sometimes ya just gotta say no! The kids had fun and got to bed late. Saturday was filled with a temple trip for me and Josh, t-ball practice for the boys, ice cream at Brusters in our pj's, dinner with the missionaries and we crashed into bed! Sunday was your typical Church at 9 am, with baths thrown in right before and a lovely teacher development class. Josh works with the Sunday School so I tagged along and loved the class! I really love learning and love even more learning about learning. Next, we took turns taking naps and had friends over for mint brownies and some good ole wres...
