Asher, April 2009

Image
This was Asher, last year. My baby is all growing up. It's time for another one! He doesn't even ride in the stroller anymore. He looks at me like I'm crazy when I suggest it- like I did today at the Zoo-and takes off running. He doesn't even fall asleep in the car after a long Zoo trip either. Although my five year old twins did. Yep, it's time. This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott. p.s. see previous post for the rest of the story from yesterday.

Jonah

Image
I posted a self portrait of Jonah the other day, but really there are more. Tons more. He is a budding photographer. A little bit more about Jonah. He is one sensitive one. Yesterday we were watching The Never Ending Story, which I love by the way, (I may need to rent Ghost Busters to keep with the 80's theme) and it came to the part where the horse Artax was dying in the pits of sadness and Ethan was goofing around and laughing and Jonah was about to cry. It was so sweet. Today Ethan asked me to print out a Bakugan (the newest thing in school now a days) and Jonah wanted a lion. Still scary, but not too scary. I love my Jonah! This is my blog. Spring Break has gone so far so good. The kids went to bed a little late and they woke up a little late, but we didn't have to run around and hurry to get to school. That was nice. We went to the gym, and although that is not their favorite activity- it is mine. You gotta have priorities, right? I had a good running day and ran 2.4 miles. Saturday I was dead and only able to barely run 1 mile. Hopefully when I do the 5k it will be a good day for me. After that was a trip to Sams Club. As we were leaving, after some pizza and another check out for the pull-ups I forgot, a man said to me "I love Spring Break. I love Spring Break." I guess I must of looked harried- pushing a cart full of groceries with four chlidren tagging behind. The cherry blossoms are blooming and we are getting excited! It's rainy today and tomorrow, so Wed or Thursday we will go see them. Of course, we could go play in the rain still. The kids are fascinated with the Mickey Mouse's House of ...

A little Easter Craft

Image
I stole this idea from Martha Stewart, but hey that's okay right? You take an empty, decorative paint can (an empty jar will also work) and fill it with grass, chocolate eggs and a chocolate Easter bunny. Cute. Simple. Easter-y. This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

In the lovely springtime..

We like to go to the park. Here is Elizabeth, sporting her new pink glasses and a funky hairstyle for crazy hair/hat day at school yesterday. She kept looking through them, then pulling them down and looking at everything without them and saying "wow". They seriously made her very joyful. When we got home she said "There's numbers on the clock!" Who would have thought such a little thing could bring such joy and happiness to a little person's life? This is my blog. Asher

Image
Asher and his new guitar t-shirt! Asher was singing the ABC song as we read an alphabet book yesterday. He got to L and said ELLA and then MEN, O, P. I guess he thinks that the letters L and M are really just words- Ella and Men. He's a funny kid!

Elizabeth's getting glasses!

Image
Elizabeth and her "P.E. stars of the week" she brings home often With a Mom and Dad both being near sighted it was bound to happen. She's very excited about it. She said "I thought my eyes were just normal." That's how I felt too. I got glasses when I was 13 and when I did the stars transformed from blurry balls to clear points of light and green blob trees into tree with leaves. It's amazing what sight can do! What are your experiences with glasses? This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Family Tuesday

I've written a schedule for my blog, so that when I don't have anything to write about, I go to my schedule and write about whatever topic it says for that day. Monday is me. Tuesday- family. Wednesday- flashback day. Thursday- my favorite blogs. Friday- the good, the bad, and gratitude- or something like that. So, here is a video of my family after dinner on a random Sunday night. Gotta love running around the circle! This is my blog. My name is Megan.

So, I have a list of 100 things that make me happy. I think I've posted some of it on this blog before. I have a goal to do something on that list each day. So far today I've done seven things: -write in my journal -read my scriptures -read blogs -write a blog (now) -go running -go shopping (mostly grocery shopping but I did buy a tropical plant!) -eat chocolate This is always good. This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Bloody Noses

So, yesterday, as we were enjoying the warmer weather that had graced us once again with it's presence, we took a walk down the hill. At the bottom of said hill there is a rocking swing which my children love to swing back and forth on- ignoring the cobwebs and various spiders that hang there on. They were happily swinging, I was watching nearby and up comes Jonah. I'm bleeding! He says. We have had to teach them to say this. Normally the boys will just cry and then drip blood all over. History- the boys get bloody noses often. Asher doesn't. Elizabeth doesn't. Just Ethan and Jonah. We have no idea why. Luckily it was just a slow bleed, not a Mount-Rushmore kind of bleed. I hurriedly check my pockets. No tissue. What? No tissue? I always have tissue! Well, Elizabeth- who has had a chronic runny nose for the past two weeks must have some- even if it's been used for goodness sake. Nope. No tissue. I frantically check the status of the neighbors. Eight year old neighbo...

Asher and Ethan

Image
Asher Ethan on Dr. Seuss's birthday. Asher's Valentines came with a free 5 x 7 Star Wars Poster. I immediately put it up in his room, albeit on the newly painted pink walls. Asher was so excited. Gone were the two by two nursery animals and up was a Stars Wars Poster. He was jumping up and down. That night he said "I love you Anikan Skywalker and Oh bi wan Kanobi." So cute. Whenever we play a guessing game for Family Home Evening he always picks a Star Wars character and has us guess who he is. Ethan was "reading" to me yesterday. I say "reading" because his reading strategy consists of memorizing the words and repeating them with each page while looking at the picture and inserting the name of the picture. "Here comes the bus. Here comes the truck." Etc. Yesterday it was getting more advanced and he seemed to be so intent on the what the words were that he forgot to look at the picture. " Who am I? I am hairy. I can fly. I am brow...

Flashback Wednesday

Us- four years ago Yes, I may be a little manic, but not too bad. I talked with Joe, my counselor, today. He said to avoid all situations that are stimulating and cause me to be even more manic- i.e. shopping or places with lots of people. So that big trip to Wal-mart I planned for tonight? Not gonna happen. I'll have to buy Elizabeth a green shirt at oldnavy.com. So sad. This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Elizabeth's notes

I woke up Saturday morning to find a note under my door from Elizabeth. It read: " Mar. 6, 2010 Dear, Mom Asher's throut is feeling better. Because I handed him a glass of water. I am feeling much better. Exept I have a runny nose. I'm hope you are happy. :) I love you! Sincerly, Elizabeth and Asher me too! said Asher" So cute! Also, I was putting Asher to bed last night and gave him a kiss. He said "Oh, and one more thing Mom." What? I said "One more kiss" and he gave me a huge kiss. It was so sweet! I love that boy! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott. p.s. manic update- I was awake every hour last night from 2 am on, but went right back to sleep. I read a study that says mania can often re-occur 3 months after stopping lithium. It's been 3 1/2 months. Hmmm...

Manic Monday

So, I think I have been a little manic lately. It all started when I had to stay home all day on Wednesday with a sick Elizabeth. I read an entire book that day and after that I just had to get out of the house. On Thursday, Friday, Saturday and maybe Sunday, I was running around like there was no tomorrow. On Thursday I had a small twenty minutes to myself between the gym and picking up Asher from preschool. I pretty much freaked out. What should I do???? I agonized. Should I go pick up the garlic at Trader Joe's that I've been needing? Should I get a hot chocolate at the McDonalds so very close to me right now? Aaaahhh! Decisions. My brain was racing at ten miles an hour. I had to call my therapist and he told me: "take three breaths and relax." I did that and it helped. He said "What is one thing you want to get done today?" I replied read my scriptures, but I already did that. He advised me to do something for someone and enjoy doing it. I spent the rest...

Blog Highlight: Onecrazielady.blogspot.com Author: The "cupcake lady". She goes to our church and had a cupcake group, where she made cupcakes and delivered them to your door- so fun! The kids loved getting the cupcakes and they were always so creative and tasty! She started her own cupcake bite business and it took off, so she doesn't do the cupcake group anymore. We will miss you and your cupcakes, oh, and your smiling face at our door! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Daddy/Daughter Dance

Image
Elizabeth and Josh went to a Daddy/Daughter Dance a week and a half ago. They had professional pictures taken there, corsages and a balloon drop. Elizabeth had a lot of fun! Josh said it was interesting to see her personality compared with the other personalities there. She was shy but warmed up quickly. I hope this will be a yearly occasion! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Oprah

Image
Yesterday the kids were watching Dr. Seuss clips on youtube on the computer- Happy Be-lated Birthday, Dr. Seuss- which eventually turned into watching abc videos and the smurfs and care bears, so I turned on Oprah. I don't usually do that but Watching Oprah is on my list of 100 things that make me happy and I've made it a goal to do at least one thing from that list every day. I love some of the inspirational stories Oprah has on her show (ie. Stephanie Nielsen). Yesterday was no different. She focused on Roger Egbert, the famous film critic, who got cancer in 2006 and lost his voice and the bottom part of his mouth. He can no longer talk or eat, but he continues to be brave in the face of adversity and that's what I love. I love people who take trials, learn from them and grow. I love how he is positive and happy, even though he has had cancer. This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott. side note: Elizabeth is sick today. Poor girl. Although we've made it through most o...

FHE, pink room and bunk beds

Image
Three posts in one! Last night we had an fhe lesson on how we can act like Jesus. We read stories from the friend and each shared what we can do in our own lives. As we started the lesson, Asher raised his hand. I called on him and he said "when I grow up I want to be a doctor!" "Oh, very good, Asher!" I replied. Ten seconds later his hand was up again. "Yes, Asher?" "When I grow up I want to be an adventure explorer." "You do? Wow! Is this a game? " I asked. "Yes. You spin the bottle..." "Oh, you spin the bottle and everyone says what they want to be when they grow up?" "Yes!" So, we played that game after the lesson and it was cute to see everyone's answers. Elizabeth wants to be an artist (take note those who want to send us care packages/birthday gifts!) Ethan wants to be a writer (his teacher today told me that he has all of a sudden grown in self confidence after she put him in a different (albeit...

This kid brings a smile to my face! I just wanted to write how thankful I am for journals. It's been a long time since I pulled out one of my old journals (a year or so) so yesterday- as a good Sunday activity I randomly pulled out one of my journals and began reading it. It was from the year that the boys were born. 2004. Wow. Let me just tell you that there were some amazing tid-bits in there that I have completely forgotten about. Aug '04 mentions how some days I only got three hours of sleep, from rocking each baby to sleep, in the middle of the night and how the ladies in the ward and Josh's sister Jen would pick up Elizabeth and take her fun places so I could nap. I completely forgot about that! October '04 tells of the time we turned down an offer to do a law school internship with a big law firm in California, feeling that that was what we should do even though we had no other offers. We ended up getting an internship with the D.O.J in Washington D.C. for that s...
