An Anniversary + A Date in the Dark

Today is our 12th Anniversary!! Happy Anniversary, Babe! My Parents came into town last weekend and we decided to take the advantage of their offer to watch the kids (counting down to when Elizabeth is 11- in 6 weeks- when  we will no longer need any more babysitters!) We decided to go to a restaurant at a new mall that we had never been to and then browse the stores afterwards.

We decided on Benihana and were excited to have a nice, romantic date. When we got there, the wait was 30 minutes long, so we put our names down and did a small preview of the Mall. The Chandler Mall is huge and we were thrilled to see a Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids and a Sees! When we returned, we still had a wait so we browsed the menu. The prices seemed way higher than I wanted to pay (even though I knew it was pricey), so we decided to leave and go to the nearby Chilis.

We were seated right away and soon had a hot appetizer on our plates. Right after we had finished our appetizer, the lights in the whole restaurant went out. People began taking out their phones and chatting. A baby cried. No one really knew what was going on. It turned out someone had hit a pole or light server, shutting off the power to a few restaurants and have of the Mall. They announced that people were free to leave, even if they hadn't paid for their meal yet. Right then, a server brought our hot meals to us, in the dark, and ours was one of the last 2 tables' meals to be finished.

And so, we had a dark (somewhat lit by Josh's phone on a water glass), romantic dinner for two. It may have been the dark, it may have been the fact that it was 8 o'clock- but it was the best steak and mashed potatoes I had ever eaten. Oh, and the company was to die for! I love you, Babe!

I'm not surprised that it tasted especially delicious - not having your sense of sight heightens your senses of smell and taste! A friend of mine and her husband had they're anniversary dinner at a restaurant that specifically had "dining in the dark." So, it sounds like you got a hip new dining experience!
