"Navilla"

Image
Every once and a while Josh and I will take turns taking one of the kids out for "special time". This usually includes an activity like shopping or going to the mall, and almost always ends in a treat of ice cream or candy. Last night I took Jonah out for his "special time". He has been wanting to go on his special time for a week now, but things kept coming up. We went to Wal-mart to look for some new shoes and got an ice cream cone from McDonalds (inside the Wal-mart- two American icons blended happily together!). Jonah also wanted a toy from a happy meal. I asked if I could just buy the toy and not the meal. They said yes. Turns out it was $1.67 and with a happy meal being $2.99- you might as well buy the meal too! We got home and Jonah was excited to tell Ethan all about his trip. Ethan asked what kind of ice cream he got and if it was strawberry. Jonah said no, it was navilla. Navilla? That's new! Ethan replied, "oh, I don't like navilla." Ash...

Swing flu

Image
I was helping out at the kids school this morning when I heard someone laughing. It was the secretary. She was laughing with another lady. I looked to see what they were laughing about. It was a note from a student's Mother that said "Please excuse so-and-so- from being absent from school Oct. 22- 26th. He has the swing flu. Thank you." Hee-hee. The swing flu! I guess she said that a lot of students have not been showing up to school. As a concerned Parent, should I worry? Is the "swing" flu running around my kid's school? Should I rush out to get the nearest vaccine and have them all vaccinated, although I don't know if they are even still in stock? I think I will take it easy. You know- use hand sanitizer more often, washing their hands, etc. And hope that they- and all of us- make it through this flu season healthy, happy and well.

Candy Corn

Asher often asks me what's for dinner. So, today he said: "What's for dinner, Mom?" I said: "Baked potatoes." "What else?" " Umm ... corn." "I want corn." "Not right now, wait until dinner." "No, corn. on the counter! In a bag!" "Green beans?" (since they come in a bag frozen) "No!! (silly Mom) Corn! In a bag! In a bag!) " Umm ..frozen corn on the cob in a bag?" "But, I went potty!!!!" A light goes on!!! "Oh- candy corn, that I keep in a bag above the counter! That can be potty treats." "yes!" And by "I went potty" he means he sat on the potty for about five seconds. Yeah. Stake Conference

Image
Last night Josh and I went to the adult session of Stake Conference. It was really good! My favorite talk was about the temple. The lady spoke about making our homes a temple and having the temple being our second home. I love that. I would love to have my home be like a temple and I do feel that the temple is like a second home to me. It's beautiful, peaceful and lovely. I love to see the temple! May we all take any opportunity we can to go see the temples near us and visit them often! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Influence

I found a neat blog on mormonmommyblogs.blogspot.com. It was about guilt that LDS women can feel as they try to raise their families. The author quoted some things she learned at a Relief Society Meeting with Julie B. Beck as the speaker. She asks Julie B. Beck this question: "You’ve touched on this a little bit in some of your other answers, how we go to church and read scriptures and learn so many things we can do, and sometimes it’s overwhelming. I would like your insight on the role of guilt in an LDS woman’s life. I know there is good guilt and bad guilt, but what role should guilt play and what role should it not play?” Julie responds Any thought that tells you “You are not good enough” is from Satan. If the thought tells you “You can do better, and I’ll help you,” it is from Heavenly Father. There will never be enough of you to do all your heart wants to do. Pray, eliminate your distractions, and follow the Spirit. We impose things on ourselves that the Lord would never i...

Pumpkins

The other day we went and picked out pumpkins. Ethan was adamant about not carving his. "I don't want to carve mine, because then it gets icky and squishy and we have to throw it away. Let's just paint it okay?" I guess we let our pumpkins get a little moldy last year. Oops! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Sandy Cera

My Mom's younger sister, Sandy, has been battling cancer for the past year or so. She passed away this morning. We all knew she was going. We knew when she was having a hard time, or when she was stable. We all talked about her often- concerned with how she was doing, what things were going on in her life, etc. Let me tell you a little bit about Sandy from my memories. She was one of the most loving, unselfish, creative people I know. She had no kids but she kind of adopted me and my six siblings as her own. For each and every birthday growing up Sandy would send us the neatest, coolest, trendiest things out there. I always remember excitedly opening each gift and knowing that I would love and cherish it for years to come. Sandy loved animals. She had several cats and would sign her cats names onto the Christmas Cards she sent. She enjoyed living in Colorado and traveling places with her husband Steve. Steve owns a motorbike and they would travel long distances to visit us in Cali...
