A weekend in NYC, part 1

A statue in Times Square, put up for a National Kiss in- we missed it by one day, but should of kissed here anyway!

Josh and I- downtown New York

On the top of Top of the Rock- a tall building and a great way to see the city!

Friday Night view of the City!

Josh and I took a half day off on Friday and caught a bus to New York City to see the sights and visit his good friend R from BYU Law School. R and Josh met on the very first orientation day of law school way back in 2004. The boys were just born that summer and we were loving life. They hit it off, became good friends and have kept in touch since then. R works at a big law firm in New York and Josh made a solo trip to see him last January. He had such a great time, that we have been talking about going together ever since. We left the kids with a very kind family- who already have five children- and ventured off.

We missed our first bus that was slated to leave at 1:30 pm, not having calculated enough time to travel from Josh's work, park at Union Station, take the Metro and then walk to the bus station. We waited on stand by and were finally the last two people to be taken on the 3:30 pm bus. Phew! I thought we would be stranded in D.C.- which isn't bad, but we were so excited to go!

The 4 1/2-5 hr trip was lovely. Reading, chatting, facebook, snacking. It was so nice to spend four hours with each other, not even having to worry about the 5 o'clock traffic we hit. We arrived at 8:30 pm and snapped some photos of downtown. New York is SO HUGE! I thought it would like LA. Comparing LA to New York is like comparing a baby to a giant. Wow. There are hundreds of sky scrapers. R's apartment building in Brooklyn ( a burrow of New York- if you didn't know) alone had 50 floors. You know the building is TALL when your ears pop on the way down.

We grabbed some pizza, went through Times Square, where they had a statue to celebrate National Day of Keeping the joy of'45 alive, and hit the M&M store and Top of the Rock- where we could look out all of down town. Amazing. We got in late and I woke up early (4:30 am- too excited to even sleep). To be continued...

That sounds pretty exciting Megan! We’ll have to check out NY one of these days. After we visit Maryland that is. ;-)

I'm amazed at how big New York is every time I go. The city has such a presence that LA just lacks. I love it there too.
