Happy Be-lated Thanksgiving!

Happy Late Thanksgiving! It is the end of Thanksgiving weekend. Josh is headed back to work tomorrow, the kids are going back to school and I'm sad to see this weekend end. We had a great Thanksgiving! In the morning I baked and we went for a hike. In the afternoon we took naps and went over to Josh's Aunt and Uncle, Craig and Ellen for Thanksgiving dinner. The food was all very yummy, as was the company. Asher didn't eat much of the food, except for the turkey, the marshmallows off the sweet potatoes and the red jello off of my Mom's famous jello salad. I guess two and a half year olds can be pretty picky. We told the kids that Christmas was after Thanksgiving, so what do you know but the moment they woke up on Friday they wanted to know if it was Christmas yet. I had to explain that it is Christmas season, not Christmas day. We put up our fake tree that we've had since Elizabeth was little and they started wrapping their toys up with Christmas wrapping paper that ...

Raisin Bran Conversations

A breakfast conversation at the Abbotts: Jonah: "The sun is waking up a little bit." Ethan: "The sun is eating cereal." Jonah: "I wish I would be the sun. Not the birds." Me: "You don't want to be a bird?" Jonah: "No. I want to be the sun because I would be very high and shine." Pause... Jonah: "It's morning time." Ethan: "It's not morning time yet. When the sun's up it's morning time." Jonah: "Gracie (their friend from Church) is eating breakfast." Elizabeth (finally chimes in): "No, Gracie's watching tv. Remember when we went there and she was watching tv?" Elizabeth: "The olympics will be on when I'm 10." Jonah: " Remember when the lipsticks were on?" Elizabeth: "Micheal Phelps was so proud of himself to win eight medals." Jonah: "I like the lipsticks." Elizabeth: "Not lipsticks- Olypmics!" Elizabeth "Micheal Phe...

Positives of Caring about what others think

In my counseling session today, we made a list of the positives of caring about what others think. The list included: caring, unselfish, kind, loving, serving, etc. I never thought of it in those terms before! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

How was your weekend?

Ours was pretty nice. We were trying to recover from a long work week for Josh. He spent all last weekend working and it takes a while to recover from that! On Saturday we went looking for a dining room table and just hung out afterwards. We are getting ready for Thanksgiving- time flies by so fast! The kids are already talking about Christmas. Wow! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

How's the weather?

How's the weather in your part of town? Here it has been raining and blustery for three days now. It was nice and warm in the morning but in the afternoon big winds and rains came. We are continuously working on our house. Josh is at Home Depot, picking out paint for the dining room. We'll see how it turns out! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Stake Conference

This past weekend we had Stake Conference. As always, it was very good! Our Stake President- President Lawyer-- refered to a talk that was given in the past General Conference. It is entitled "Sacrament Meeting and the Sacrament." by Elder Dallin H. Oaks. I read it this afternoon and was touched by how it stated "We live in the perilous time prophesied by the Apostle Paul. Those who try to walk the straight and narrow path see inviting detours on every hand. We can be distracted, degraded, downhearted, or depressed. How can we have the Spirit of the Lord to guide our choices and keep us on the path?" He goes on to say that every week as we take the sacrament, we commit to remember the Savior and always have his Spirit to be with us. I am grateful for a loving Heavenly Father who has established a pattern by which we can remain true and faithful. Recently I was diagnosed with depression. My low moods caused me to feel that I was unworthy of feeling the Spirit. I am g...

White Sugar- Not so good after all

Image
I come from a family that likes to eat healthy. Two of my sisters are vegetarians. All four of my sisters avoid white sugar and love to bake with whole wheat flour. My Dad has beat out cancer using healthy ways to take care of his body. My Mom is a pro at finding good food and cooking it so that it's wonderful to eat (see www.letusthankhimforourfood.blogspot.com). Up until this point of my life, I have been somewhat wary of their take on food. What's the big idea? So what if I have a little white sugar now and then. No big deal, right? It turns out that, yes- it is a big deal. It's okay to have a little sugar once in a while, but having it for breakfast, lunch and dinner and snacks inbetween is not that great. I did a short search on the internet after seeing an ad in my local newspaper for a class on "the sugar blues". (You can take a class on how to beat the sugar blues for only $49.00!) It turns out that sugar really does have debilitating effects. About six mo...
