This little boy cracks me up! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott. side note: he is also getting all of his back molars. Pretty crazy!

Counseling Session- w/ Joe #2

Image
This morning I went to a counseling session with "Brother Joe"- as he likes to call himself. It went really well. My friend Shawna McInelly watched the kids and despite the fact that I ran out of gas on the way home, I feel uplifted and strengthened. He said something that really hit me. You know, one of those sayings that you keep thinking about over and over. He said "You don't have to be the best Mom. You just have to be a good enough Mom." I love that! It really motivates me. Knowing that I don't have to be the best, I just have to be good enough. That applies to all my roles in life: Activity Days leader, Pianist, Wife, Neighbor, etc. This knowledge fills me with hope and faith and Charity. I have been letting discouragement and doubts and fears and guilt plague me for long enough. I am going to start seeing Brother Joe once a week and my goal is to be able to end each day satisfied with how I have lived that day.

Proposition 8- In California

This November a very important issue relating to marriage is on the ballot in California: Proposition 8. This measure would change the constitution of California. "A new section would be added stating "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." As it stands, the Consitution of California is not gender specific in terms of marriage and "As of June 17, 2008, marriage between individuals of the same sex is currently valid or recognized in the state of California" (wikipedia.com) A good blog to refer to is www.familyman-lloyd.blogspot.com. It is extremely important that this proposition is passed in California. If it does not, it will legalize marriage between those of the same sex, essentially redefining the family. The family does not need to be redefined. It needs to be strengthened! This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Happy Birthday, MaryRuth!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday, MaryRuth! Happy Birthday to you!

How's the weather?

How is the weather wherever you are living? Here it is crazy! In the morning, around 7 am it is 42 degrees. It slowly gets warmer until it hits about 82 at 3 or 4 pm. I don't know how to dress my kids in the morning! Ethan and Jonah and Elizabeth are all going to a Pumpkin Patch on a field trip for school. Should I take Asher all by himself one day? Are the pumpkins cheaper when you get them from a pumpkin patch? What time of the day is best to go to take pictures there also? What do you guys think??? This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Conference

A good General Conference was enjoyed by all this past weekend. Saturday morning we had waffles with strawberries and whip cream- a yearly tradition at our house. Conference doesn't start until 12 pm here, which is a little late, but the kids were all able to listen and learn for an hour before having "quiet time". I am amazed at how each time I watch Conference, there is always one or two talks that speak right to me. I know that it is because Heavenly Father loves us each individually as a son or daughter of Him and wants us to return to live with him. I hope to apply the things I've learned this weekend to my life. This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

What's new at the Abbotts?

Well, after an evening of pampering (a pedicure and hair stuff), while Josh was away at work, I sat down to watch The Office ( see www.nbc.com if you would like) and found myself watching the Vice Presidential Debate. What did you guys think about it? I though that Sarah Pallin shouldn't have worn black- but other than that I enjoyed it. Just kidding! I was impressed with Governor Pallin. Right away she asked Joseph Biden if she could call him "Joe" and that gave me a good impression. She reminds me of my sister Larissa actually. Very friendly and outgoing, confident and knowledgeable (Larissa- you should run for office!!). I recognized that both debaters used tactics to sway the viewers to one side or the other. A few times I found myself agreeing in a way to what each had to say. I'll just conclude with my thoughts at the very end: "I better get online and write about this and maybe- just maybe- contribute a little bit of green american dollars to the McCain/ P...

Lice?

Well, Elizabeth has completed one of the rites that often happens during Kindergarten- She got lice! We had a day off of school yesterday and spent it at the zoo. Right when we got there, I looked down at her head and spotted a moving crawling thing. Sure enough, it was lice! She must have gotten it from school or from a birthday party she went to on Saturday. Either way, we did the shampoo and comb thing last night. I was glad that I had it before so I knew what it was like! Hopefully we can be rid of it completely soon! This is my blog.
