Greater Phoenix Devotional February 2019

The Cardinal's Stadium

On Sunday, Josh, the kids and I piled into the van with a plastic bag of bagel sandwiches, pretzels, apples and caramel m and m's and drove up to Phoenix to see the Prophet- President Russell M Nelson and his Counselor Dallin H Oaks and their wives for the Greater Phoenix Arizona Devotional. This would be the first time our kids would see a Prophet in real life. Josh and I had seen President Monson when we attended General Conference while we were dating. We had also seen him at BYU as well.

Many others had the same idea and the traffic was bit more than we had planned! We were supposed to be in our seats at 5:30 pm for the 6 pm start time and we arrived around 5:45 pm. We missed the Prophet's entrance, but found our way up the stairs in the enclosed Cardinals stadium to find 7 empty seats in almost the very top.

The Prophet was very tiny. Declan became immediately hungry and bored. Elizabeth had never seen so many people: over 68,000 people! And most members of our same faith. I've always found that faith strengthening and comforting. The music was wonderful. Especially the last hymn. I felt as though angels were singing along with them. (Thank you friends who sang!)

Sister Oaks gave a touching talk. So did President Oaks about faith and using the Church's new Come Follow Me program at home. He also encouraged the Youth to use their cell phones less. We are the Masters of technology- we are not it's slaves.

Then Sister Nelson gave a soul stirring, extremely personal talk about how the Prophet gets personal revelation in the early morning and she often gets prompted to either leave the room or stay with him.

In President Nelson's talk he spoke of gathering Israel. Of the blessings given to Israel that the Gospel would spread to all the world (which is happening through missionary work). We are all recipients of these blessings. He personally asked us to pray daily to find a way as a family each day to gather Israel- whether it be through service or family history (on this side of the veil or the other side of the veil).

It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life and I hope to remember it and cherish it forever and always.
