Hey, you bloggers!

I was catching up on blogs this morning and a thought hit me " Why do I like to read other people's blogs so much?" What is so appealing to me about reading their posts? finding out how they are doing? what they are doing? what struggles they have had recently and how they have overcome them? And then the answer came to me-

I love reading about Mothers who are doing the exact same thing as me- raising their children in love and righteousness, trying to make their home a place of peace and beauty, love and fun- organized and welcoming.

I realized that this is my job and there really is no professional magazine (like The Economist) out there for us Mothers. So, we make blogs the literature of our lives. We learn from each other and share with each other. I have gotten so many good ideas from the blogs that I read.

For example, our 10 year anniversary is coming up. I am just thrilled to have made it to this point (we're still young- I know!) and we have always planned to go on a cruise or a trip to Europe for this special occasion. That is not going to happen this year since we are moving. Since we can't do anything big I remembered an idea that I read on someone else's blog (ohhappyday.com) She made 23 envelopes for someone who was turning 23 years old and put a little gift or note in each envelope.

For our anniversary, I got 10 bright thank you cards at Target and filled them with little notes, gift cards, etc. for Josh to open. One for each day until our anniversary. I'm so excited to see his reaction each day- although today he woke up and stumbled into the shower, not even seeing the 10 envelopes taped to the wall. It's such a fun idea and one that I wouldn't have come up with on my own.

I love it. I love being a Mom. I love being Mormon. And I love raising my family. Even if the kids take over my whole living room with a multi-room fort made out of packing boxes.

This is my blog. My name is Megan Abbott.

Loved this upbeat post! Also..blogs are actually more fun than magazines with their links, their colorful brightness...and how you can comment. I love blogs, too...and can't wait until you get settled in AZ! Love, Mom

I'm drawn to blogs of mothers that are in the same stage of life as me as well. I have learned so much since the whole blogging thing came about. It's been awesome! I hope you are well!
